SOLUS Information

SOLUS (SIMS Online Update Service) allows you to automatically perform SIMS upgrades on a workstation without intervention.

The SOLUS download facility is now being used as the principle method of updating SIMS systems in a large number of schools and Local Authorities.

SOLUS3

SOLUS3 is now available to LAs and Schools assisting them with the automatic delivery and maintenance of the SIMS Client and Server software onto Computers. During the second half of 2011 we plan to enhance this further to enable deployment management of the full SIMS suite of SIMS software.

Main Benefits

  • Scheduled updates can be easily applied allowing you to control when you want the upgrade
  • The entire SIMS System can upgraded without SIMS user involvement.
  • SIMS Client software can be installed remotely without the need for workstation visit.
  • Infrastructure needed by SIMS can be packaged up and automatically deployed (e.g. .Net Framework 4) saving support time.
  • The deployment manager has access to a range of reports and filters to help identify any potential issues and resolve them before any impact is felt.
  • SOLUS3 allows the potential for Local Authorities to manage SIMS updates remotely for their supported Schools.

SOLUS2

SOLUS2 provides a web-based service to allow System Managers to download the latest SIMS releases and perform upgrades using a simple ‘wizard’.

The SIMS Online Update Service (SOLUS) downloads, verifies and runs update files from a website using a download application called the SOLUS Wizard. Three simple steps required to update using SOLUS:

  • Capita notify customers that the release is available via SOLUS.
  • The SOLUS Wizard is run to download the release onto the SIMS File Server
  • SIMS .net users then run SIMS .net. Whilst SIMS .net is being loaded, a utility called SIMSLoad checks the SIMS File Server for updates and runs them accordingly. The upgrade is completed and SIMS .net is opened.
