The next generation of SIMS

By Phil Neal

It’s a proud moment in the history of Capita SIMS and what promises to be an exciting year ahead – we’ve announced a major refresh of our software for schools.

In recent months and at Bett 2017, we have given a glimpse of the SIMS vision of the future, but I’m now proud to be in a position to reveal our series of reimagined software, which I believe will transform the way that teachers use pupil data and improve learning outcomes.

Meeting the evolving needs of teachers

Let me start from the beginning. This isn’t simply SIMS you can use today in the cloud; we have redesigned everything from the ground up to perform brilliantly on tablets.

A real focus has been to look at every task that a teacher or school leader would perform during the day and analyse what information would help them to achieve this easily. We want staff to enjoy using the software and make it faster, flexible and more intuitive, no matter what the task is at hand.

You’ll see from the screenshot below, which is taken from our award-winning Assessment solution, we have reimaged the input of data to ensure that only a single touch is required to input a wide variety of grades. For teachers, this makes it incredibly fast to enter data and get on with teaching.

Next steps

The current plans we have in place will start with the release of a redeveloped version of SIMS for primary schools in early 2018.

We’re also redeveloping our finance offering and will be providing a phased release of a range of next generation solutions starting with Options this autumn, to be followed by Examinations, Staff Cover and Timetabling. This will form part of the release of an MIS for secondary schools in autumn 2018, with independent and special schools set to follow.

I’ve been delighted with the initial feedback from our customers and primary schools will be able to see a live demonstration in the autumn term through your account manager or local SIMS Support Unit. I hope this gives you an insight into our plans for the future and we’ll be releasing further information about our new solutions in the coming months.

Thanks Phil, Looking forward to see the demo especially for Primary Schools - I cannot wait to see it working on Macbooks and iPads.
Question: Will SIMS be releasing a redesigned FMS as well? and if yes, when please? What about SEN? and lastly what about reporting, will reporting get better?

Many Thanks
Kind regards
Jehanzeb
