John Kyrle High School, Herefordshire

John Kyrle High School is a large, oversubscribed school in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire with almost 1,400 students, including 300 in the sixth form. Graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, the school recently became a new convertor academy to develop what Ofsted described as its ‘vibrant and dynamic’ learning environment.

To correctly manage their cash flow and budgets, the leadership team need to have up-to-the-minute information about their financial position. The school also has to make quarterly financial GAG (General Annual Grant) reports to the Young People’s Learning Agency. These reports detail the school’s critical business information including all income, expenditure, and depreciation of assets. The school decided to continue using SIMS FMS because of the seamless link to information already recorded in SIMS, including staff contract information, asset details and pupil numbers.

"For us SIMS FMS is a one-stop shop – we do not have to pull in details from elsewhere to set budgets based on pupil numbers or know what salaries we are paying staff.

"At any time, we can go to the software and know our exact current financial position as it takes into account the very latest spending. If an order is raised, it shows immediately on the system and affects the global figure. This is extremely powerful in terms of financial management."  John Docherty, Business Manager
