Making a fool of yourself, dressing up, baking cakes and taking on hair-raising activities are just a few of the exploits we’ve got up to in the name of charity fundraising. Here at Capita SIMS, Corporate Social Responsibility and Volunteering (CSRV) is an integral part of our values. We had a very active 2015, supporting not only the Capita corporate charity, The Prince’s Trust, but several local organisations close to our hearts.
Across all our SIMS sites, we have collectively raised over £3,900 in the past year and we are now working hard on new ideas for 2016 and beyond. There were many highlights of the fundraisers that we were involved in, including hosting a garden party to celebrate Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day, a table football tournament, countless bake sales and a grand Christmas raffle.
It was really rewarding to think that giving a few hours of our time, some positive words and the benefit of our experience can really help these young people
Capita SIMS Volunteer
Our staff are actively encouraged to undertake volunteering projects each year, with every Capita employee entitled to one working day per year to support a project of their choosing. In 2015, we had 65 members of staff taking part in 13 volunteering projects across a number of Capita SIMS sites, which included major garden clearance and painting projects, assisting at a charity sports day and packing goody bags for events.
Respecting the environment
We work to minimise resource use at all our sites – especially as energy is part of our environmental management policies. We are dedicated to reducing our impact upon the environment and we have introduced recycling processes across our offices to help us achieve our goal to reduce carbon emissions from our business activities.
Supporting Let Teachers SHINE
Capita SIMS is proud to be a platinum supporter of SHINE, an organisation which has been working for over a decade to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and a cause that we support wholeheartedly.
Through our involvement in the annual Let Teachers SHINE competition, we help provide support for inspirational teachers to implement their innovative ideas and improve outcomes for these children. Let Teachers SHINE is free to enter and open to any teacher working in England. Up to 10 winning projects are chosen by a panel of judges to receive up to £15,000 in funding from SHINE.
Through our successful association, we were delighted to have previous SHINE winners presenting on our stand at the annual Bett Show and SIMS Annual Conference this year, to showcase their winning projects and the huge impact they are making on children’s attainment.
The 2017 competition will be opening again next spring.
