The pace of change in education is unprecedented; daunting even - this is what the media, academics, international speakers and government officials report every day.
School leaders have substantial responsibilities with far-reaching effects:
- preparing students for an uncertain job market whilst nurturing entrepreneurial spirit,
- connecting shifting qualification requirements with an inspiring, broad and balanced curriculum,
- managing and moderating the rapid expansion of digital technologies,
- staffing and retention,
- UK and local regulations…
... it becomes easy to lose clarity and focus.
But what if we stopped buying into the rubric that schools and school leaders are “doing it wrong” or “not doing enough” or “not doing enough, quickly enough”? What if, instead of chasing the change or waiting for the “specialists” to tell us how to “do it right”, we defined what excellence means to each of us and to each of our schools? What if we challenged ourselves to seek, define and lead excellence?
BSME sets the stage for each of you to chase excellence: how good leaders become great, how we better our staff, how we design world-class provision and prepare students for their futures - whatever that may look like. Let’s open and explore the toolbox of good practice at our disposal to help us regain clarity of leadership; clarity of excellence.
