Following the decision to remove national curriculum levels, many primary schools are still to develop an alternative model to measure pupil progress. Capita SIMS has signed a partnership deal with Learning Ladders to complement its new SIMS Assessment solution. The move will allow schools to access additional tools to create even more detailed and customised curriculum to help support, teach and assess pupils in the post-levels world.
Learning Ladders allows schools to create their own personalised curriculum quickly and easily. The online tools enable senior leaders to define measures for pupil progress using ‘ladders’ to mark stages in a child’s development.
Schools are free to define what these stages of development will be or use the one provided, based on Hiltingbury School’s award-winning model.
It will mean that a teacher or school leader who uses Capita’s SIMS management information system and School Explained’s Learning Ladders, can personalise their curriculum and then analyse the progress of pupils or groups of pupils against these smaller Learning Ladder steps, and the programmes of study statements within SIMS, as simply and easily as they have done in the past with levels.
Phil Neal, managing director of Capita SIMS, said: “During my many visits to primary schools, the single most common topic of discussion is just where they should begin when developing a post-levels model. And, once a system is in place, how can they ensure they measure progress against it easily. This partnership with School Explained provides them with further options for an effective solution.”
Matthew Koster-Marcon, managing director of School Explained, said: “We are delighted to be working with Capita SIMS so schools can link these two best of breed products, to give them one complete, connected solution for the new curriculum. Our premise is simple; to provide flexible resources that ensure schools can adapt to life in the new ‘no levels’ era. This partnership should make that all the more easier for schools to do.”
