21 January 2016: SIMS Assessment with the SIMS Teacher app has been voted best ICT Tool for Teaching, Learning and Assessment at the Bett Awards 2016.
The accolade was presented to Phil Neal, director of Capita SIMS, during a ceremony held at The Brewery in London last night.
Phil Neal says: “I am delighted that SIMS Assessment with the SIMS Teacher app has won this award. It is testament to the sheer dedication of our development team to have created such a comprehensive solution to support assessment in schools.
“Teachers are no longer confined to recording achievement as levels, and schools need the flexibility to assess against the curriculum being taught. I’m proud to say that SIMS Assessment and the SIMS Teacher app support best practice and allow teachers to record assessments whenever and wherever they need to. What’s more, they can also combine the latest behaviour, attendance and achievement data with their assessments for a more detailed understanding of individual pupil outcomes and whole school impact.”
What sets SIMS Assessment apart is that it not only provides a clearly defined framework for assessment against the national curriculum, it also allows for complete customisation and automatically links to student data held in SIMS. So, schools can define an assessment structure to accurately reflect their assessment policy which builds up a complete picture of a pupil’s progress and links this to their attendance, behaviour and special educational needs too. This gives senior leaders an accurate picture of how individuals and the school as a whole are performing.
Leanne Takaki, office manager and data assessment at Wistaston Academy, explains: “SIMS has driven change in the classroom by giving us a greater focus on assessment, attainment and progress. Teaching and lesson plans may also be altered in accordance with pupil monitoring to impact on learning.”
Teachers can record assessments or note evidence of learning in the classroom as it happens using SIMS Assessment or the SIMS Teacher app. SIMS Assessment further enables teachers to instantly assess a student’s progress using all the latest information held by the school. Attainment and progress can be recorded against the National Curriculum Programmes of Study which means any school using the software can identify individual strengths and weaknesses, no matter how they choose to deliver the curriculum or assess children.
