With the festive season officially upon us, schools up and down the country will have been enjoying their Christmas lunches. I wanted to share my own seasonal cheer for schools by revealing one of our latest features in the SIMS Teacher app.
Easily recording school meals through the app has been top of many primary schools’ wish lists. I’m delighted to reveal that we’ve now made recording the morning attendance and dinner registers in class even simpler by integrating the SIMS Teacher app with SIMS Dinner Money.
This exciting development, which is available first for the Apple iOS platform, will now simplify the process of taking both registers together by combining them within the SIMS Teacher app.
Switch and save time
For schools, this integration will help to streamline everyday classroom tasks and save teachers’ time. You’ll be able to quickly switch between the attendance and dinner registers to complete both in a matter of minutes.
As you’ll see from the screenshots below, we’ve kept the same look and feel for both registers and made it easy to switch between both with a simple tap of a button on the left hand side of the screen.
Not only will this help to free up your teachers’ time to focus on what’s important in class, but it will ensure that children’s dietary needs are being satisfied and that the school canteen has all the pupil information it needs to hand.
For schools that have interactive whiteboards, you may also like to engage your pupils by connecting your iPad and allowing children to register themselves, as well as record their meal choice by simply tapping their picture on screen. This leaves more time for your teachers to meet and greet pupils as they arrive and help prepare the class for the day ahead.
Effectively manage your school meal provisions
We’ve included the option for you to add comments for each pupil to the dinner money register, for example if a pupil won’t be in school for lunch that day.
Teachers also won’t need to take a separate attendance and dinner money register every day, as the SIMS Teacher app will automatically populate each pupil’s default meal choices and display them from your SIMS system where they have been setup. To help make things simple, pupils marked as absent in the attendance register are automatically marked as absent in the dinner register.
For those of you already using the SIMS Teacher app, you will also be familiar with the ability to use it in both online and offline mode. We’ve made sure that these options are available in the new integration with SIMS Dinner Money registers, giving staff greater flexibility to view and update the attendance and dinner registers wherever they are.
This new functionality is now available to download from the App Store. If you have automatic updates enabled on your iPads, you won’t need to do anything as the app will be updated automatically.
