Schools are always incredibly busy places, whoever you speak to, teachers, senior leaders or office administration staff; everyone wishes they had more time or that their tasks could run a bit more smoothly.
Juggling those tasks can seem like a challenge some days, trying to keep on top of everything when the to-do list just seems to keep growing and growing.
That’s why SIMS was created all the way back in 1984 – to put all of a school’s data into one place and make managing information and records easier.
Fast forward to 2018 and SIMS is the most widely used MIS by schools, storing vast amounts of data and providing a wealth of statistics, reports and information for a wide variety of staff.
However, with all that power comes a new set of challenges. As a SIMS user, you might know what you want to get out of your data or what you want a report to show, but do you know how to actually produce the information you need?
To really get the best from SIMS, it helps to understand the breadth of what it can do for you. You might want to pull up a report showing the behaviour and achievement patterns for a year group within your school within seconds, for example. Being able to dive into your school’s data could provide you with more power than ever to understand what’s really happening on a day to day basis, as well as the inspiration to drive real change for your staff and pupils. As every school has its own requirements, learning how to get the best from SIMS empowers staff to tailor their use of the solutions available to their needs, such as creating custom marksheets for assessments in line with your own policies.
That’s where SIMS training courses come into their own. We understand that there’s a lot of functionality in SIMS, so we don’t expect our users to be experts from day one. Instead, we provide a wide range of opportunities for you to benefit from the knowledge of our experts, many of whom are able to blend their own functional understanding of SIMS with personal experience of working in schools or building up strong relationships within the education industry.
Whether you know where the gaps in your knowledge currently are and you’d like to sharpen up on a particular product, or if you occupy a specific role and you’d like to know what SIMS can do to help, we offer a number of scheduled courses in various locations.
For example, if you’re a Data Manager in a school, you can select from one-day or two-day courses with a focus on either Primary or Secondary in areas such as analysing conduct data, reporting on attendance or preparing for a new school year. Whatever you need to learn more about in SIMS, there’s a course to help you achieve your goals. Among the most popular programmes are those that focus on Curriculum Management with Nova-T for timetabling and a wide variety of courses centred on assessment.
In addition, schools can benefit from dedicated onsite training, where a SIMS consultant will visit your school to deliver training individuals or groups of staff on aspects of SIMS that they specifically interested in.
We understand that every school is different. With this in mind, we work with schools to build unique, bespoke training and consultancy solutions through our School Improvement Programme, which is designed to develop the effective use of data throughout your school in support of whole school improvement, measuring the impact of your strategies and providing comprehensive evidence to Ofsted.
At the heart of our School Improvement Programme are our School Improvement Consultants, all of whom have worked as senior leaders in schools and who have a proven track record of supporting schools in their efforts to provide evidence of improvement to their networks of stakeholders.
Having worked with schools for over 25 years, our trainers and consultants have gained a deep understanding of what’s required to get the best from SIMS and we’re still adding to that experience every day by listening closely to the needs of our customers.
