Whether it’s engaging parents with their child’s learning or empowering students to manage their school lives, it’s widely recognised that effective communication is one of the key areas to help schools achieve this. Yet it can be a challenge to make sure that both parents and students are easily engaged in school life in a way that is convenient to them.
As we look to evolve our parental engagement solution, we’ve been listening to parents who have told us they want a solution that provides a simple method to receive information about their child’s school life. We also know that students themselves want to be able to access important school information, wherever they are.
I’m excited to announce that we’re launching our new SIMS Parent app and SIMS Student app to help schools drive engagement, improve safeguarding and reduce administration. Both apps can be accessed from a phone, tablet or through a web browser on a PC, with a single sign-on giving them anytime, anywhere access.
Furthermore, with an increased focus by Ofsted on improving parental engagement, you’ll also be able to provide an audit trail of the communications you’re sending, which can be used as evidence at your next inspection.
Improving parental engagement
Effectively communicating with parents can help to improve outcomes for children. It’s therefore crucial to know that the communications you send are being received by parents. Whether it's updates on attendance and homework, through to timetable changes and conduct, schools will be able to send notifications and reminders directly to parents, keeping them constantly informed. Parents can view this information on a clear dashboard to track their child’s progress.
The SIMS Parent app will also help your school’s commitment towards safeguarding as it alerts parents when a child has not been registered in school, allowing action to be taken. The data collection functionality also ensures that schools have an easy way of collecting the most up-to-date contact details and medical information from parents.
Inspire student motivation
It’s important that schools can easily communicate with students. The SIMS Student app is a great way for schools to send alerts to keep students engaged and informed, from reminding them of an upcoming school play, to congratulating them on a high score achieved for their homework.
Students have the convenience of being able to use the app before, during or after school, giving them instant access to key information including their timetable for the week ahead, when upcoming homework is due or how they’re progressing against targets. For students without a phone or schools who enforce a no phone policy, all this information can be accessed from a website.
Come and try the apps for yourself
We’ll be launching the SIMS Parent and SIMS Student apps at Bett 2017 (25-28 January), where you’ll be able to see a live demonstration. We’re delighted with the feedback that we’ve already received from schools who have been piloting the SIMS Parent app and we’d love to hear what you think. Come and visit us on stand B190 to try out the apps for yourself.
