It’s been seven years since the Homepage was first introduced as a way for you to receive relevant information you need. And over that time, we’ve made small tweaks and additions. But with the ever-evolving technology and information demands on us, it was time for a major revamp. And we’ve included it in our SIMS spring release.
So that you can benefit from the additional workspace offered by high resolution monitors, we have extensively re-engineered the Homepage so that it detects your screen resolution and arranges the widgets (a widget is an application, or component of an interface, that enables you to perform a function or access a service) to make the most efficient use of the available space. At the same time, the widgets have been given a modern, minimal look to give you a clearer, user-friendly workspace.
Access more of the information you need
Whilst we were giving the widgets a new look, we also made it possible for you to obtain more information from them. For example, whilst the minimised widget may show the attendance for a registration group, expanding it to full screen gives the students’ underlying comparative attendance information. And what’s more, from the graph, it is possible to access all the students' information.
A closer look at behaviour and achievement
We received many requests from people wanting to see a measure of overall behaviour. Creating the new Homepage has given us the opportunity to include a new conduct widget, which delivers this.
We’ve combined the existing achievement and behaviour structures. So, when both categories are selected, a conduct graph is drawn for the selected group and cycle. In addition, the available groups for analysis have been extended to include both user defined groups and SIMS Discover dynamic groups.
If you’re a supervisor of a group of students, you’ll know just how useful it is to be able to see how they have been behaving and what their attendance has been like during the week. The new Homepage now has a new cycle “week to date” so you can see exactly that.
Keeping an eye out…
Back when I was a teacher (quite some moons ago now!), it was always useful to keep an eye on certain students and access frequently used marksheets and reports. With the new Homepage, we’ve combined four widgets to form a single “Favourites” widget, meaning you can bring all your important information together in one place.
If you’re a user of the assessment summary panel, you can now also filter individual columns, in a similar way to filtering marksheet columns in assessment manager.
