An HMC school, and Bath’s former grammar school, King Edward’s has a healthy tradition of nurturing academic excellence combined with an ethos that encourages all pupils to play as hard as they work.
David Middlebrough, Assistant Head (Curriculum), explains how the flexibility of SIMS supports the success of every role at the school:
“With SIMS, we have everything we need in one place, from assessment data, details about behaviour and achievements, contact details and medical information. We particularly like the way we can tailor the SIMS homepage for individual roles, so that everyone in the school has instant access to the specific information they need via a personalised dashboard."
King Edward’s School achieves consistently outstanding academic results and David explains how SIMS helps with this:
“We use SIMS Assessment to monitor effort and grades – the mark sheets and overviews allow form tutors and Heads of Department to scan this information easily. We find the tracking grids particularly useful – our Heads of Year swear by them for being able to pick up information and trends easily. We can plot pupils’ latest grades against previous grades and targets so we can very quickly identify those pupils who are coasting and who might otherwise slip through the net because they are in the mid-range of achievement.”
David is responsible for the school curriculum, for which he relies on the capability of SIMS:
“SIMS gives us the flexibility to create the right timetable for our school, with all the complex nuances and quirks associated with that – every school uses SIMS differently and we find there’s always a solution, always a way of delivering the curriculum you want. There’s also not a scenario that I can’t deal with in SIMS when it comes to managing staff cover.”
David summarises the value that the school places on having SIMS. “SIMS does everything we need it to do and a lot more - we use it all the time and there’s never been a requirement that we’ve not been able to meet. We’re a longstanding SIMS customer of some 15 years and have always kept our finger on the pulse in terms of reviewing and considering other solutions but haven’t yet found an option which comes anywhere near what we can achieve with SIMS.”
