Established as one of the most forward-looking schools in the area, Langley School couples a first class, all round education with a warm, friendly and supportive school community.
Deputy Head Frank Butt explains how SIMS supports the school in providing evidence-based intervention: “Our focus is on ensuring all our pupils are stretched and challenged at all times. We use SIMS to ensure we’re encouraging every pupil to aim high.”
“We find the red, amber and green ‘traffic lights’ in SIMS Assessment particularly useful to alert us when we need to provide further help, whether it’s an extra session at lunchtime or a chat with parents. As a result of monitoring pupils in SIMS, we can see where we’ve added value, for example moving pupils set to achieve a B at GCSE up to an A grade. SIMS shows us exactly where to put additional support in place and we were delighted to achieve our highest ever levels of 5 A*-C GCSE grades in 2014 as a result.”
“The academic ethos of Langley School is of the ‘growth mindset’, in that we believe every pupil has the potential to develop their ability to learn further. As a result, we prioritise recognising effort with ‘merits’, both in and out of the classroom, and have a rewards system comprising bronze, silver, gold and diamond awards.”
“We use SIMS Discover to set limits for each award so that we receive alerts when pupils have moved up a band, and can also see easily how many pupils have moved into a particular band. Using SIMS Discover makes it easy to run our rewards programme successfully without putting extra burden on our teaching staff."
Frank summarises the impact of using SIMS at Langley School:“SIMS supports our school’s values and helps us to be more efficient so we can offer a tailored education which develops every pupil’s potential to the full.”
